Ready, Set, Race!

It is time for Seth's first Pinewood Derby in Scouts!
Adam and Seth worked all day Saturday to make the perfect NCIS racecar. (NCIS is Seth's favorite TV show.)

They painted it Navy Blue with Gold details and I stamped NCIS on the top.

Who knows if it will win the race, but I think it looks pretty good!

He takes it in to Scouts on Wednesday so they can check it. We will let you know how he does.

Nerdfest at the Hammons Home

The Hammons family was recently introduced to a game called Talisman. It is a board game like no other. It is a perilous adventure in a fantastical world of magic and monsters. (It says so in the rule book...) Adam and Seth love Talisman. Rachel has been a good sport about playing and I got my first turn Saturday. Katie has no intrest in being nerdy with us.
Talisman isn't for the faint of heart. Our game lasted HOURS... Seth started out as the thief but died and had to pick another character. I was the Prophetess but at one time was turned into a toad for 3 turns. Seth loved that. Adam was a ghoul because he likes being evil.

Seth is getting quite good at the game. He definately understands it better than I do.

Adam had fun because I usually don't play things like this. He and Seth ganged up on me and stole some of my stuff while Seth was a thief.

I tried to be a good sport but the magical games and movies aren't my thing. It was fun to play with my boys though. The girls both found other things to do during nerdfest...Maybe next time. I can't imagine how long that game would last.

Decade Day!

I never thought I would be crimping hair again, but today was decade day at Rachel's school. She tried many different looks but we ended up with the 80's...
She was told by her teacher to use the blue eye shadow. She put it on really lightly but I helped her understand that to really make that look work, she needed to be dramatic.

I'm so happy that the 80's are over, but it's kind of fun to remember. Go Wildcats!

Happy Birthday Shariana!!!

What a beautiful girl! I was thinking about Shariana this morning because it is her 17th birthday. Man, I can't believe how old I am... Anyway, Shariana is my youngest sister and has always been so much fun. We still use phrases that she said when she was little. So many times we say we want to "watch a woobie" instead of watch a movie just because we remember how cute she was when she wanted to watch a woobie that we had already seen a hundred times. I remember being pregnant with Katie and how certain Shariana was that I was having a girl. She knew I was having a girl baby and naming her chomper... She was half-way right on that.

It has been so much fun getting to watch her grow up into someone that I admire.
We are lucky to have Shariana in our family and I hope this year is awesome for her as a 17 year old! Happy birthday Shariana!

Friday Night Lights

The girls had their first football game Friday against North Jackson. Scottsboro lost pretty badly but the girls did really well.

Rachel's poor little legs were tired. She did 72 toe touches during the game and smiled the whole time.

I think she found her calling in life. It was really fun to watch her.

Katie plays the flute in the marching band. It's really hard to see her in the pictures. She had fun though.

There she is! This was the closest shot I could get. This year at half-time they are playing Santana.

She is a CHEERLEADER

Getting Ready to Stunt

The 1st Pyramid

Cute cheerleader!

Ok, it's official. Rachel is a really good Scottsboro Wildcats Cheerleader and had her 1st "Pep Rally" kind of thing Saturday. She stunted and cheered for the parents in the gym that was about 100 degrees... Seth was REALLY bored. Katie was really supportive. Even Adam got to watch. Usually he is working. Here are some pics. Katie has band camp all week so Friday I will post pics of her band stuff if she lets me...

Kitty Bo

Meet Kitty Bo
Shhh... she is not supposed to be inside... We couldn't resist sneaking her in the first day we had her. She loved curling up with everyone.
What a face! Seth is in love with his new kitten. Her name is Bo because she looks like Adam's childhood pet Kitty Bo.

Too cute! She is a good kitten so far and the kids love her. She hides under the front steps and jumps out and surprises the kids.

And We Danced... More Fabulous Fourth

Adam and Michelle dancing the night away.

Michelle and Rachel showing off some moves.

After the fireworks we danced a while as we waited on the crazy traffic. Our guitar guy played a lot of oldies that the kids didn't recognize but it was still fun watching them dance. Somehow I managed to get Adam to dance with me and let the kids record it. He put up some resistance but I think he had fun. We probably embarrassed the kids a little, but they'll live. Seth even slow danced with me but I will keep my word and not post the video on the blog. You're welcome Seth.

Adam's favorite part of our 4th of July was "dancing with his sweetheart." Awww... Michelle's was being able to snuggle up with the family watching fireworks. Katie's fav. part was the music from our guitar guy. (He is good) Rachel's favorite parts were the fireworks and dancing afterwards. Seth said his favorite part was watching fireworks while eating marshmallows. But I know it was really slow dancing with mom. Just kidding.

We are blessed to live in such an awesome country and look forward to many more years of watching fireworks on the last pier at Goosepond. Fun times...

The Fabulous Fourth of July!

This year we decided to go all out and let the kids paint their own shirts for the 4th... At the diningroom table :( ... I helped Rachel and Adam helped Seth. Katie is very artistic and knew exactly how she wanted her's. Seth went a little crazy with the paint and had to paint his sleeves and everything. He doesn't agree that less is more... The table is fine and the shirts looked really good. I think they want to do it again next year.

Every year we are lucky enough to get to go to Goosepond and sit on the dock and watch fireworks. There is always a guy playing the guitar and we dance and play before and after the actual fireworks. It is so nice to be out on the water watching the show. It seems like the fireworks are right above us.

This year we stayed and danced until about 11:00, just waiting on the traffic. I even got Adam to dance with me. Hopefully I will be able to post photos and video of that. It's pretty funny. I think last year we embarrassed the kids, but this year they knew what to expect. All in all it was a wonderful holiday.

Pneumonia Head

Poor, Poor Rachel. She was dropped during a cheerleading stunt and cracked her rib. It hurt so bad to breathe that she took shallow breaths which lead to pneumonia. 3 emergency room trips later she is feeling a little better.

And yes... in this picture she was "taking crazy pills". ;D

Seth's King of Pop Tribute

Here are a few of Seth's moves as he remembers the King of Pop- Michael Jackson. For about 2 years now Seth has been listening to Michael Jackson. He got a cd of Michael's Number One Hits a few months ago and we all have had fun dancing and remembering different MJ moments.

Seth's favorite Michael Jackson song is "Smooth Criminal", second would have to be "Beat it". Rachel's favorite is "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough", Katie's is "You Are Not Alone". Mine would also have to be "You Are Not Alone" but "Smooth Criminal" is very good also.

It has been a sad time for Seth but I told him that Michael Jackson got to do so many things in his life and left the world with great music that will be listened to by so many different people.
